The Engineering Authority’s head of the Armed Forces, Major General “Ihab Al-Far”, this Wednesday, caused the anger and excitement of Egyptian President “Abdel-Fattah AL-Sisi”, because of Rabaa Square ‘s name repetition, and Sisi said excitedly: Its name is “The Martyr Hisham Barakat Square”.

This came during Al-Sisi’s inauguration of a number of projects in the east of the Suez Canal.

Al-Sisi experienced anger in broadcasting live during a review of the Engineering Authority’s head of the Armed Forces, Major General Ihab Al-Far, the efforts of the authority in carrying out many projects, including the road and the Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square in Nasr City.

Al-Sisi had boycotted General Al-Far, saying: “Its name is Martyr Hicham Barakat Square, Your Majesty.” So, the General repeated the same mistake again while continuing his conversation, which provoked Sisi’s emotion again to interrupt him, saying: “We said that its name is the martyr Hicham Barakat.”

It is noteworthy that the Egyptian regime decided to change the name of the “Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square” in the Nasr City neighborhood to the “Hicham Barakat Square”, the late Attorney General, in July 2015.

Rabaa Al-Adawiya Square witnessed a sit-in by the supporters of the late President, Mohamed Morsi, the country’s first democratically elected civilian president, following the coup that Sisi led on 3 July 2013.

On August 14, 2013, with direct orders from Sisi, the army and police forces broke up the field by force, causing the largest massacre in decades in Egypt, during which more than 2,800 martyrs and thousands of wounded were killed.

Sisi’s anger and excitement when mentioning the name “Rabaa Square” sparked wide reactions on social media, while Twitter users emphasized that, no matter how Sisi tried to eradicate his crimes, he would not be able to eradicate his crime and injustice in Rabaa, and that Rabaa would always remain stuck in the minds and hearts of all Free world.
